As Thais wait for officials to announce today whether Songkran water festivals will happen in April, Public Health Minister Anutin suggests they completely skip alcohol. At a press conference yesterday, Anutin confirmed Thais will be allowed to travel and visit family. He said Thais should focus on family and “traditional religious activities”, according to The Pattaya News. Anutin “asked” that Thais avoid drinking alcohol, having parties, and gathering around booze at Songkran this year, although this statement was not a mandate. The minister also said that alcohol weakens immune systems. Songkran festivals were canceled in Thailand in 2019 and 2020. […]

May be that some drink to get away from family duty during part of this time and just want to let some steam off as Thai work way too much and hard. This guy is a total idiot who runs by his own silver spoon laws. Do as I say but not as I do.

Good suggestion but doubt it will be followed. Since drinking together promotes the spread of covid, we can expect a spike after the holiday.

Don't you think massive travel promotes covid to spread faster and far more than drinking get togethers? This particular time of the year people need a shut down break to relax and blow off some steam. So my thoughts are the travel promotes it rather than subdues it.

I suppose we should all be relieved that we are not advised to refrain from missionary position intercourse unless we take atk tests and wear masks. These advisory messages become more ludicrous by the day and Thai people are heartily sick of being treated like imbeciles. The election cannot come soon enough when the likes of Anutin will see what people really think of their inane rantings.
