It was interesting reading this article. I must admit that at first I thought - Here we go, another Rich kid using daddies money to buy a fast car and driving while high on booze and/or drugs.  Then I read this guy is actually an executive of a major company. Consequently I stopped and told myself to stop prejudging as obviously the son was wealthy in his own right. Then I read on and see that he was an Exec, in the company his daddy owned! Then I noticed I’d missed a key part of the story; his daddy is the Ex-Cop!!

So having tried to look for the positive and reprimand myself for jumping to conclusions, turns out it is the same old same old !! The poor victim (dead) will be burned. His family are unlikely to receive any compensation, or if they do something like 1m Baht (10-20% of the cost of the car that killed the man) and the country will move on.

Cresdia Dick has or will soon retire from the head of the Metropolitan police in the UK. She is in all but name the National Chief of Police in the UK. Her estimated net worth; according to an outraged British Newspaper, is a whopping $2m. Clearly she hasn’t been as good at saving or investing her Police salary over the years as Police General Wirachai who amassed $585m. Such a story would normally result in the collapse of governments. In Thailand it’s a stated figure and people simply move on from it. Sadly these stories are everyday life in Thailand and many Thais feel there is simply nothing to be done. Like someone from Britain complaining about the weather.

You stopped to early, perhaps?

Pornmet is an executive at a renewable energy company where his family are major shareholders, and Forbes magazine estimates that his father’s net worth is US$585 million as of November 2019.

To me it looks like:

Another rich kid getting a high profile and paid job because of dad's money and job!

But that is just me, perhaps

High ranking police officials worth a half billion is totally normal. Look over there.

Kind of it is. You get there only, in case you are be able to pay for your promotions. So mostly high ranking officers are from wealthy families, anyway!

But as soon you are in a position to promote others, you get it back with interest.

Just the numbers, not 600 Mio Baht, but US makes that "a bit" out of the order, methinks.

Perhaps the family, his wife's family, was rich before? And were looking for some extra protection?

interesting to follow up on this case. At least, the son admitted to drive careless. Ny guess: A million baht or two to the refugees family in Thailand (if any) and almost forgotten it is

In former times in never went to the police office in Bangkok .

I always looked for Porsches and Ferraris to stop them and make the report .....which is clear due to their amazing salaries

Looks like he'll be able to buy himself out of this easily. Plan b is probably Dubai.

Yeah totally agree. I did read it all and when I read the part you’ve posted, I thought, Oh FFS, here we go again! Has anyone any idea how a policeman (whatever his rank) can amass $580m? Why isn’t he already locked up and WTF is he doing still working. Protecting his “interests” I assume. Utterly shameful

My totally normal sarcasm was compared to the rest of the world. I know a ton of NYPD officials worth a half billion.
