Despite living under the Taliban’s grip, four Afghan women have won scholarships to study at Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok. The women were chosen based on their academic records, and determination to promote women’s participation in Afghan society. And yet my Thai family members tell me its impossible to get a scholarship!

You must pay corruption money they said 

My step daughter applied but to no avail! Sad

So many deserving citizens here but its this way! Sad

Under the current regime of Afghanistan they will probably never get to use the knowledge they aquire.

Paying corruption money.  Sadly very much part of Thai life.  Getting a job you have to pay, they call it many things, administration paper work costs, compulsory uniform shirt, 800 baht for the first one, 100 baht for the next.

Seems the higher the pay for the position the more up front costs you pay.  Promotions once in the position also incur a fee.  Been noted on forums that some ranks of promotion in RTP can cost millions.
