Card providers Mastercard and Visa have also announced a suspension of services in Russia, although Russian banks have downplayed the effect of the move. However, the Russian Central Bank has advised its citizens to carry other forms of payment while travelling. One resort on the island of […]

Can’t be true since the Russian central bank said everything would be fine. After all isn’t all the money running through China’s banking system?

There is no reason to profile whether or not to accept a credit card based on nationality. All the merchant need do is process the transaction. If they receive an approval, then it is fine.

After two years of reading the daily news out of Thailand, I am coming to the conclusion that in all matters, Thai's may just lack a level of knowledge necessary to make basic decisions. They seem to needlessly complicate simple things. And the root cause of this appears to be a lack of common sense.

Why don't Russian citizens open up new bank accounts in Ukraine? That way they can get a credit/cash flowing once again, and at the same time support Ukraine!

I'm reasonably sure that Russian/Ukranian sites (there must be some) ask questions about opening bank accounts too. It cant be just a western thing, despite all the rhetoric.

Checking into a hotel you must present your passport so they can notify immigration. Therefore the hotel knows. With all the news about freezing Russian accounts a smart hoteller wouldn't want to get stuck. Sometimes approval isn't instantaneous so it's best to be cautious.

Do you read the Thai news in Thai or in English.  It makes a big difference.

I would say that has is more to do with the fact, that Visa and Mastercard withdraw from business in Russia. NOW US-sanctions are working. Visa and Master are US compnies.

And that the Russian tourist have already trouble, for a week or such, on ATMs, has also nothing direct to do with swift. Because the EU announced that just mid last week with a "finish your business" period of 7 days. Will come in to effect this week, Wednesday, methinks. So could have worked all the time till now, till visa and Master popped out.

My guess is, either Thai Banks did stop accepting, last week already, fearing not to get there money back, or: Russian Banks stopped that "clearing" of the withdraw request, because they have to keep the money in the country?

Now there is the start of very interesting times: Russians have to find ways, to get cash to Thailand. Or they may not even get there one month war extension.

Are there flights, to where ever in Russia? Perhaps to China, Russia? How will they pay them, anyway?

What will the Thai Government do, if they running out of money? The hotels will kick 'em out, methinks!

I guess there are still flights to Russia. Not European countries or Aeroflot, but UAE flights or Turkish BKK Istambul Moskow. You must have the possibility to pay of course.

Easy thing to say just like that while sitting confortably behind a computer with a cup of tea and a biscuit. Please enlight us how this could be done other than typing it on a keyboard. What would you personally do if Putin was the president of your country?

I feel sorry for Russian people retired in Thailand who worked hard all their lives and decided to spend their last years of life in peace in this country. What are they supposed to do?

You're probably right in the sense that they've left it way too late to do anything about it. The time to do something about it was when he hadn't entrenched himself to the point he has today where it has become virtually impossible to get rid of him.
