Really? You sure about that because in comparing the start of WW2 and this war they kinda look the same. Their attitude toward civilian casualties sure looks the same.

Putins latest demands have nothing to do with why he invaded Ukraine in the first place, but Michael Portollo tries to explain the mind of a total lunatic.

No real explanations but good observations and comment from "Choo Choo".

Michael Portillo? Please tell me you're kidding!

In what way? Wasn't Putin's original reason that Ukraine wasn't a separate country? That historically they are part of Russia and therefore needed to be reabsorbed? If Putin's demands were to be agreed, wouldn't Ukraine still be an independent country? The other points he makes are just as valid. The two breakaway regions were already independent in practice if not legally. Same with Crimea. The fact Russia occupied Crimea would have kept Ukraine from every joining NATO. Last demand was a cease fire, which happens when you end a war anyway. The only real change is you have legalized what was the status quo. Seems like a lot of death and destruction for basically going back to the prior starting point.

Soviets were unhappy when Afghanistan shook off its Soviet friendly government.

With that in mind, figured Putin would have already put his cards on the table and gone for a settlement on the Eastern Provinces, a Hail Mary to legalize his illegal annexation of Crimea, and then call it a day (for now).   Not likely now given the mounting body count and destruction.

Was just looking at some rewind tape on Yeltsin who, reportedly,  realized and acknowledged to President Bill Clinton at the time, that he'd made a mistake elevating Putin.  Always had a niggling feeling that Putin, while intelligent and crafty like a fox, was a bit of nug promoted beyond his station.  Similar to Trump, except for the intelligence and clever part, which is why he shot his wad and flamed out early.

Appears Putin's going to need an ultimatum, like Bush Sr.-v- Saddam Hussein/Kuwait, and the balls to see it through.

Short of that, and assuming Russian forces eventually take Kiev, Putin will have Afghanistan 2.0 on his hands.  Ukrainian resistance forces are already miles ahead of where the Muhajadeen was at the outset, and Osama bin Laden would blush with envy at the 5G  speed in which western Jihadis have reported for duty.

Interested to see how long Xi hangs in there before unfriending Vlad on Facebook.

even military experts rooting for Ukraine are saying that the few weapons that might made it to the border are not going to help in any way against the massive Russian invasion

lost and hopeless cause, Putin demands are not unreasonable, so people are dying for nothing

Ukraine neutrality like Denmark could also pave the way for Ukraine democracy and independence from Russia

win-win for everybody, but that would be too easy, and NATO is only interested in selling more toys, not neutrality

We could see the russian amateur army and their equipments thats why they are bombing civilians and children. Btw compare it with the numbers and equipment of the Nato units in Europe 😱🤣😅

They eveven don't know how to organize a convoy. But for sure everything from their genocide against Ukrainian civilians will come back and they will have no resource for any war anymore and be bankrupt and zero chance!. Europe and Alliance over 40% of the gdp and allied democracie including indo pacific over 60% of the world gdp, Russia fedaration before the invasion 1,3 % of the world gdp and now is rated as junk and almost bankrupt together in the ranking with countries like Angola. ( there is also a interesting article about in the Bangkok post about it).

Czar Putin is now trying to figure out how he gets out of the mess he is in with his head still attached to his body.

War is going very badly and sanctions are destroying the Russian economy. Its a matter of time until there is a coup.

Just saw a short interview segment with former Russian Foreign Minister, who departed just as Putin came in behind Yeltsin.  He made light of Western countries/NATO et al, being too timid when it comes to confronting Putin.   He speaks and everyone cowers in the corner while he runs rampant.  He's "punking" the west big time.

These "Fire and fury like the world has never seen" dictators and wanna-bes, talk a lot of s**t.   Reminded of Iran's blustering threat to sink the next US Carrier that dared to enter the Strait of Hormuz in recent years - I was still out there at the time.

US Navy acknowledged the double-dare and then sailed one high diddle diddle, straight up the middle.  Nothing.  Not a peep.  Crickets.

About time Putin gets his card pulled.  Long overdue, actually, and why we are where we are now.  I know, tough talk from behind a keyboard, but I think this position will begin to evolve.

Is that your personal opinion or would you mind telling us on what you base this ridiculous accusation on, Mao's Red Book perhaps. He was one of the most intelligent MPs that has ever served his country.

But well done on completing a full sentence.😂😂

What does that have to do with you dismissing his points in the video? Were his points incorrect and if so why? He might or might not be a joke, but what he said seemed correct.

I take it he's not on Emperor Xi's Christmas card list then.

Perhaps you could tell us why Portillo is wrong and what in Xi's your opinion is actually going on?

Might or might not be? A man who has introduced and 'starred' in a programme about trains most recently? Pardon me if I stick with reality here.

You’ve now twice avoided answering to why you dismissed his points. I’ll take that to mean you have no reason other than to discredit them. Fair enough

You must do as you see fit.

So because a Portollo did a program on trains that makes him a "laughing stock", by anybody standards that is rediculous.

Putin is no Hitler, different agenda

Chamberlain was trying to avoid a war, nothing deplorable about this

it's not like Europe won the war in 1939, we lost. It took the US and Russia to be involved together to win against the Germans. And that only started in 1942, and for 5 years Europe was Hitler's b*tch.

And then Stalin took his share. Yeah, a real win. How soon we forgot our own history.

Your history sucks. 🤣UK / British  Empire was not conquered, refused to surrender, fought on alone, won Battle of Britain ( Air), Battle of Atlantic ( Sea)  , North African War ( Land) ; all without US military involved.Yugoslavia was not conquered either.Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Ireland , Switzerland. all neutral / not occupied.🤨😃Russia would have folded in ‘42 without UK / US materiel & bombing raids…😌

To be taken seriously here, you must address the facts & case presented ( message) not deal emotionally in reputations ( messenger).

An outright lie. Portillo’s reputation is mostly excellent.Your misguided opinions appear straight from The Morning Star ( circulation 93 ?).
