"Swiss-American consortium is leading the race to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich and the group are growing increasingly confident that a deal can be announced as early as Monday.

Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss revealed earlier this week that he had been approached by Abramovich about buying the club and has teamed up with US tycoon Todd Boehly to launch a takeover.

According to Swiss newspaper Blick – who conducted the initial interview with Wyss – the duo have now found additional partners and are pressing ahead with their offer."

True, but they see it as a business and don't care much about the sport, competition or possible trophies.

Yup

But he replied to possible Chelsea being bought by an American by saying they don't care

I took that as Americans wouldn't be interested

When they very much are

Although I am still very confused on how ownership works

The Russian bought them for around 200 IL and can sell them for 2bil+

But he's owed 1bil+ in loans to the club?

Rather a sweeping statement...again Fred. Don't tar all Americans with your likes or dislikes. 'Soccer' is more popular than ice hockey now in the US.

There are actually more Premier League matches broadcast in the US than England now

Although I know most of that is due to weird TV rights in UK

But football, especially Premier League is very popular in the US now

Interest has exploded in the last 10 years

I am an all out fan that barely watched it 10 years ago

Why would you say that? Professional hockey is a televised sport.

Do you know how many Premier League matches are broadcast in the US?

Premier League actually has a bigger weekly TV spot(Saturday at 12:30pm est on NBC) than the NHL has

That has no relevance to my post what-so-ever, are you trying to say that because it's a viewing audience they are not interested in it and the people sat there have no interest too.

I would have thought that anywhere you go in the world that "soccer' is mainly watched on the TV than actual fans visiting the match, would that be a fair assumption Fred?

He owns two different Companies and one of his Companies lent the other (Chelsea) some money , so he owes himself the money

Americans are not the least interested in English soccer.

I know quite a few fine US folk that follow the Premier League, LoongFred. And a lot of them are very knowledgeable. MLS is also quite a thing. “Soccer” is growing, and the US is a growing force.
