The deaths increase because the numbers infected increase, but the ratio is in major decline. In Chiang Mai the governor and health chief have announced that the morbidity\mortality rate is now so low it is below that of common influenza. Therefore they will no longer be releasing daily figures of cases & deaths but will now issue them only twice in four weeks. Seems to me that we are moving towards a situation where hospitals are easily capable of handling admissions and those who have had treatments postponed can look forward to near normality. Which in turn begs the question, when will the jackboot be taken off the throat of nighttime entertainment, outdoor mass gatherings and the like. The economy is in desperate need of the return of tourism.

That's why there is a shortage of the antiiviral drug favipirvir, because so many new positive cases.

That's wht 60% Covid-19 hospital beds in Thailand are taken.

Please don't tell me they're giving Favipiravir to those who are asymptomatic?

They are.

My girlfriend's friends (10) tested positive and are currently spending 10 days in a government hospital(Phonpisai) with a mild cough no fever and are taking Favipiravir.

Well, that's not "asymptomatic" - that's mild to moderate symptoms which is EXACTLY what Favipiravir is intended to treat and recommended for.

Not for the asymptomatic and equally not for serious cases, for whom it's not recommended and not effective.

Waiting until those with mild symptoms develop more serious symptoms is too late.

Well, yes, but if you're one of those dying or on a ventilator, and there are more every day, it's not really much consolation for them or their families to be told 'don't worry, "the ratio is in major decline" '.

Do you have a link for that, as even taking the highest estimate for deaths from "common influenza" (not the number given by the Thai Ministry of Public Health last year, which was three for the year, or the WHO figure which includes deaths from pneumonia) that would be some 17,000 deaths from common influenza per year which is way, way above any official or even unofficial figure.
