The West seems to be perfectly content to drag the current situation out for as long as it takes to get what they want. If the West had had ANY sincere commitment to either the Minsk Accords or to peace in Ukraine, it would have long ago forced Kiev to enter into direct negotiations with the authorities in Donbass and to implement all the aspects of the Minsk Accords. It hasn't done so because it knows that a federated Ukrainian state, as envisaged by the Minsk agreement, would never support joining NATO as this would be vetoed by the Donbass. A federal Ukraine would also never join the EU, which demanded back in 2013, as a condition of doing business with Ukraibe, that Ukraine not participate in the Eurasian trading block. With that demand, the EU deliberately violated the Budapest Memorandum (its Article 3, prohibiting the use of economic blackmail for geopolitical ends), the only international legal document that guaranteed Ukraine's territorial integrity. It was for his refusal to sign on to that EU bit of geopolitical extortion that Yanukovich had to be removed from power by the west in a coup de tat, regime change operation back in 2014. That regime change operation, and failure to fully implement those Minsk accords, is in fact what has set all of the events in motion that have lead up to our present situation.

All of which is neatly forgotten now. The state of the union speech has become the state of ukraine speech. Or err... somewhere.

Very few people on the planet actually have a complete grasp, a full understanding of the history of this current conflict. That's one of the main dynamics the social engineer's count on.

Great /s    declare economic war on Russia. That has worked out pretty well for the US with the Japanese before the start of WWII. NOT. Hopefully Vlad the Impaler will get the concessions he wants or be deposed and this will end sooner rather than eventually. The media only seems to show Russian tanks getting hammered but if you believe that you’re in for some bad news.

Which authorities in Donbass?

The pro Russian thugs have never controled more than a small part of the region.

Indeed it was the DPR terrorists who broke the ceasefire.

So along comes Minsk II. The insurrectionists broke that ceasefire as well by declaring it only applied to some areas.

Have a look at what the DPR actually are especially their extreme right wing ties.

Russian ethnic and imperialist nationalism has shaped the official ideology of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. Members of far-right groups played a greater role on the pro-Russian side of the conflict than on the Ukrainian side, especially at the beginning. Leaders of the Donetsk People's Republic are closely linked to the neo-Nazi party Russian National Unity (RNU) led by Alexander Barkashov, which recruits fighters. A member of RNU, Pavel Gubarev, was the first "governor" of the Donetsk People's Republic. In particular, RNU is linked to the Russian Orthodox Army, a separatist group in Donbas, and Barkashov is said to have given instructions to its commander Dmitry Boytsov according to a published audio recording.

Volunteers from several other Russian far-right groups have joined the separatist militias, including members of the Eurasian Youth Union, the Russian Imperial Movement, and the banned Slavic Union and Movement Against Illegal Immigration.

Other neo-Nazi groups fighting as part of the Donetsk People's Republic include the 'Svarozhich', 'Rusich' and 'Ratibor' battalions, which have Slavic swastikas on their badges.

Activists from the Nazbol group Other Russia have also been involved in pro-Russian unrest in Donbas, and formed the Interbrigades paramilitary group.

In July 2015, the head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, said he respected Ukraine's far-right party Right Sector "when they beat up the gays in Kyiv and when they tried to depose Poroshenko. I realized that Pravy Sector are ordinary men like us".
