News Forum - Indonesia will manufacture mRNA vaccines

Recommended Posts

After being chosen by the World Health Organization to get a technology transfer to become Southeast Asia’s Covid-19 vaccine centre, Indonesia might begin producing its own messenger ribonucleic acid vaccines. PT Bio Farma will begin producing mRNA doses under an undisclosed brand. With a capacity of 3.2 billion doses per year, the company is one of the region’s largest vaccine producers, according to a statement from the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Indonesia wanted worldwide support to produce its own Covid-19 vaccine in order to help protect its population, which is the fourth biggest in the […]

The story Indonesia will manufacture mRNA vaccines as seen on Thaiger News.

As the website of the company indicates they already make the volume and are expanding their production facilities, perhaps not so ludicrous volume wise.

Taken from their website https://www.biofarma.co.id/id/berita-terbaru/detail/bio-farma-akan-terima-teknologi-transfer-vaksin-mrna and after translation , the document states "Bio Farma, as the largest vaccine manufacturer in Southeast Asia. Annually, Bio Farma's production capacity reaches 3.2 billion."

IMO, the issue won't be capacity so much as sourcing raw materials and maintaining quality control of the product when producing such volumes.

For Pfizer, a batch of mRNA makes 3 million doses of vaccine per production run, which takes 60 days. Maybe Bio Farma can do 3.2 billion in 1 year. That's a game changer for future vaccine demand

It will be if they can. Let's see if they can live up to their claims or are they just waffling on! 😀

Come on... That's literally 100 doses every SECOND none stop for an entire year. Ludicrous. Does anyone fact check these articles 🤣

Perhaps they can do that?

Pfizer announced 2 billion in April, last year, in May already the goal was set to 3 billion for 2021. And they expecting 4 billion this year.

So I am not knowing, where you got this numbers

Even there:

In February 2021, BioNTech announced it would increase production by more than 50% to manufacture 2 billion doses in 2021,[121] raised again at the end of March to 2.5 billion doses in 2021.

Since Pfizer is the distributor and "bottle filler" for Biontech, there would be no need to produce 2.5+ billion doses, for biontech, if Pfizer can't fill 'em up!

And did you notice how complicated the process and supply chain is that's needed for Pfizer (who invented it) to meet a 2.5 billion mRNA dose commitment. 3.2 billion is a big promise from a group that's never delivered a single mRNA dose. Like a said it would be a game if they can pull it off.

Pfizer invented what? mRNA vaccines, COMIRNATY? Afaik the invention was done from Biontech/Germany. Pfizer jumped on that train, with money, while Biontech already was having success and doing first or second stage trials. Biontech 's the producer of the vaccine, in Germany, Pfizer the one, filling it in vials in Belgium. At least that was it, beginning of last year.

And of course, even 1 Million doses can only be produced, if all the supply chain is working! But that is not because "they never delivered a single mRNA dosis". Because they do not create the process, they just need to implement the given technic-information.

I would just like to know, WHICH vaccine they will produce! Can't really think of any of the two already approved once, if I am honest. There is a lot money involved!
