Prosecutors will today decide whether to indict a police officer who fatally struck a pedestrian while riding a Ducati motorbike at speed. Norawich Buadokw was off duty and riding the un-licenced superbike when he hit Bangkok ophthalmologist Dr Waraluck Supawatjariyakul on a pedestrian crossing. The incident happened on Phaya Thai Road in the Ratchathewi district of the capital on January 21. Of course this guy will be indicted. The only reason they are holding the press conference is to announce the indictment otherwise it would be a “No comment” day.

In Laos I found it dangerous to stop for pedestrians crossing behind the Morning Market, because other vehicles would just swing around me and keep going. Fortunately, nobody was hit that time so I just kept going and did not stop on other occasions. The pedestrians had to wait until the road was clear before crossing the uncontrolled section of road.

He has been charged.  This is about the indictment.  Like most countries, the police bring charges, the prosecution then decides whether it will indict and bring it to trial.

What country are you speaking to?

The difference between being indicted and charged relies on who files the charges. “Being charged” with a crime means the prosecutor filed charges. An indictment means the grand jury filed charges against the defendant.
