Phase two will continue from now until the country’s full reopening of arrival and departure tourism activities via air, land, and sea routes, which is set for March 15. During this period, overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese citizens, as well as foreign nationals, are eligible to participate in the pilot programme through regular international flights, both commercial and charter. This is looking much more like it. No mention of test on arrival or anything like Thailand Pass. Well done Vietnam.

But does it really?

In a article on the Government News website (https://en.baochinhphu.vn/latest-guidelines-for-2nd-phase-of-pilot-program-to-welcome-international-tourists-111220218163339086.htm), it says something that is not mentioned in TheThaiger article:

If tested negative for COVID-19 on the third day after arrival, fully vaccinated travellers can participate in tourism programs in all localities allowed to join the pilot program.

?????????????????? Does that mean this will be from now until 15 March and then lifted? Good luck finding this information.

Also it says: "vaccinated travellers participate in tourism programs in all localities allowed to join the pilot program"... (???).

That does not sound that much less hassle than coming to Thailand, and it also sounds like you cannot go anywhere (but where? good luck finding that information too), and surely it sounds like huge research need to be made...great fun then. One thing seems to be the same than Thailand though: the mask at all time. Happy holiday.

Ummm. Yeah doesn’t sound great does it. I do wish news agencies would stop using headlines such as “Vietnam open for tourism”. Open means open. Not open but with restrictions. To be honest, unless there is a pressing reason to travel, I would right off 2022. Certainly until Q4 at least.
