Thaiger Posted February 21, 2022 #166002 Share Posted February 21, 2022 The Malaysian government is considering a full re-opening of international borders by the second quarter of this year. According to a Bloomberg report, the Malaysian PM, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, has given the country’s Health Ministry 2 weeks in which to prepare re-opening guidelines. However, the country’s health minister, Khairy Jamaluddin, has stated that doesn’t mean the borders will re-open soon after. Officials say that while it’s realistic to consider re-opening the country in the second quarter of the year, the proposal will need to be discussed further at all levels of government and it will be up to the Malaysian […] The story Malaysia says its borders could re-open fully by second quarter of 2022 as seen on Thaiger News. Manu Posted February 21, 2022 #166026 Share Posted February 21, 2022 (edited) Quote On February 16, the country reported 27,831 new cases, the highest since August 2021, when daily infections reached 24,599. As with Thailand, the surge is being driven by the highly-contagious Omicron variant. While even the worse mainstream media in Europe were somehow forced to end this ever-ending reports of now useless numbers of "cases" (whatever that ever means), in Asia (not only Thethaiger) the non-sense continues. So by reading these 2 sentences quoted above, one cannot help feeling as if the situation is really not good, or even worse than back in August. But then, if the numbers that matters were also reported, like for example the number of deaths, it would certainly give a complete different picture. If these kind of reports choosing some numbers while ignoring others are made "on purpose", I do not know. They are in any way not great journalism. It was on 26 August when they had the 24,599 cases as reported in this article. There were that day 393 deaths. On 16 February and the 27,831 cases as reported in this article, there were ...20 deaths. The "highly-contagious Omicron variant" in the second sentence gives more weight to the first sentence in order to make you feel as the situation is bad. Again, on purpose or not, I do not know and it does not even matter. By looking at the death tolls, it is very clearly not the case. Jason Posted February 21, 2022 #166149 Share Posted February 21, 2022 It would seem that delaying reopening, only serves to cost the economy and people's livelihoods more. HighSo Posted February 21, 2022 #166356 Share Posted February 21, 2022 What does reopening even means nowadays? Digital Vaccination Passport and PCR test needed = reopening?! For every sane person reopening = like before 2 Link to comment https://talk.thethaiger.com/topic/11465-news-forum-malaysia-says-its-borders-could-re-open-fully-by-second-quarter-of-2022/#findComment-166356 Share on other sites
