Three workers were killed and four others injured when a structure collapsed at a construction site for the luxury complex One Bangkok, which is said to be the biggest real estate project in Thailand with a budget of more than 120 billion baht. Talk about scary !  Imagine the consequences if the foundation flaw was not discovered until completion, and the building was occupied. Death and destruction.  Construction in Thailand should have weight (and height) restrictions because of  wide spread settlement problems.

I don't think so HM. Poor supervision of formwork supporting scaffold or faulty equipment most likely.

The article incorrectly uses the term 'mortar', when it was of course concrete being poured when the formwork collapsed.  I've experienced similar on a small scale using bamboo supports which give creak and groan warning sounds before collapsing.  Steel toms simply buckle.
