As Covid-19 infection numbers surge in Bangkok, officials have set up another 1,000 beds in isolation facilities across the capital. According to a Bangkok Post report, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has instructed all 50 district offices to create more community isolation facilities. Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang says the additional isolation facilities will help ease the burden on hospitals and the healthcare system. Covid-19 patients who are asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms can be treated at the centres, keeping hospital beds free for the seriously ill. There's a rule that every positive ATK-result is to be followed up by a PCR-test. If that's adhered to quite well, today's ATK-positives will be accounted for in tomorrow's PCR-positives. Only if the rule is mostly ignored can ATK-positives be added on top of PCR-positives. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

A bigger impact on reliability is that the positivity rate has climbed well over the recommended 5% (18.31% in today's dashboard, see [1]). That used to trigger more testing, yet this year proactive case finding is still at an all-time low (see [2]).

The experience in my country is that PCR tests were simply too slow to keep up with the number of cases. RApid Antigen Tests then became short in supply, as people couldn't avail of PCR tests and sought them instead. Now the numbers of daily infections are counted using both. But the stats show how many positive tests were PCR and how many were rapid antigen.
