Thailand’s recent changes to the laws around cannabis have sparked confusion across the country, with many questioning, “Is weed legal now?” Well.. not the weed that will cause a high. There’s a limit on the plant’s psychoactive component, known as THC, so you won’t get stoned when you order a cannabis-infused tea or dish topped with a pot leaf. Those who smoke cannabis can still be arrested in Thailand. Cannabis extracts with more than 0.2% of the high-inducing tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, are still illegal. So when you see cannabis products and dishes for sale in Thailand, they have higher levels […]

So the plant can be grown to extract the “plant’s non-psychoactive component cannabidiol, or CBD, which is known to have medicinal properties, like reducing anxiety.”
CBD oil is what is sold in the ganga shops.

I use CBD almost daily, feels great. You don't feel high, just super relaxed and nice. You feel it more in your body. I take it for anxiety instead of prescription medication.

Happy to hear it's legal in Thailand now - I'll be buying some after landing instead of smuggling them in as multivitamins!

"Cannabis extracts with more than 0.2% will be illegal" in my opinion the extracts aren't the buds.. So cannot extract nothing more than 0.2thc but the buds with more than 0.2 are legal? Someone has understood what the Government mean?

"January 2022: Cannabis removed from narcotic’s list"

It would be interesting to know the full extent that this has.  The article states you can still get in trouble but if its no longer on the narcotics list then id image in fines, jailtime, etc for "illegal" use would need to be adjusted accordingly.

The secretary-general of the Medical Council of Thailand has called for a campaign to educate Thai drivers about the need to stop at red lights and pedestrian crossings. In a post on his Facebook page, Ittaporn Kanacharoen says drivers need to be taught about the rights of pedestrians and the need to give way at zebra crossings and red traffic lights. He says that unless drivers know to stop, it’s pointless installing traffic lights at pedestrian crossings, as is currently happening across Bangkok. Plans are afoot to make the city’s zebra crossings safer after a Bangkok ophthalmologist was fatally struck […]

Growing marijuana is only legal for licensed growers. Smoking marijuana is still illegal. THC gets you stoned. Buds have more than 0.2% THC so buds are illegal. CDB extracts do not get you stoned, it reduces anxiety. CDB extracts (oils, drinks) will have 0.2% THC and contain other “stuff” from the plant so CDB extracts are legal.

CDB details below.

Usual Thai bashing and being stupid in the process

Look at any country/state/province that has legalized marijuana

They all have had starts and stops during the process

You don't go from it being illegal to being legal overnight, there is a lot of moving parts

Legalizing CBD is the easiest 1st step......

That's also how i understand it. But...

Would mean a 250g (~250ml) drink can contain 0.5g thc, right ?

That's a lot, dude !!! Really ! Try it and tell me if you dont get high ! Already ingesting 0.1g thc should make one quite high for quite a long time.

I can smoke weed every day

But I can't even ingest CBD with the bare minimum THC in it without getting completely wrecked

My body just does not react well to edibles or ingested....

This article is garbage.

Everyone in Thailand will be able to grow it for “medicinal” purposes

The 0.2% THC specifically says “extracts” which is not the plant.  So, no weed gummies or vape juice with high THC.

Extracts are currently the only form of cannabis available   Both CBD and THC sublingual tinctures are available at medical clinics that have been authorized to dispense cannabis.

Even if the 0.2% were to apply to plants, there are 70 million people in Thailand and if they grow 6 plants each, the government would need to figure out a way to test 420 million plants (haha)

Sandbox areas were also announced   It wasn’t made clear exactly what these will be or what the rules will be in these sandboxes but the expectation is that they would allow tourists to use cannabis recreationally

Also left out of a lot of this is that Thailand is moving away from mandatory minimums for drug offenses and putting more emphasis on treatment options.

So, effectively, Thailand has made it so recreational use of cannabis is still illegal so they stay compliant with international agreements, but they’ve made enforcing the laws on cannabis, ahem, unprofitable and so complicated that the police will have little incentive to arrest people.

The new laws still prohibit growing on a large scale without permission and selling cannabis so don’t expect to see weed stores popping up on Sukhumvit.

But it may be available under the table by more places that have made, ahem, arrangements with the right people.

So, basically, think about it like something else that’s illegal in Thailand but openly tolerated.

As one prominent Thai cannabis activist put it, Thailand’s new cannabis laws are basically a big don’t ask, don’t tell policy.

A month ago, I was vacationing in Thailand and got to know the local cannabis guys. As I understand it, no one listens to the laws because they have been growing cannabis for centuries.

I’m from Wa.St. In USA where it’s legal to grow cannabis for personal use and also can buy at licensed stores for recreational use(but not in public)…many states. Are now legalizing for one main reason-CASH COW FOR TAX REVENUE!!!   And the powers to be,( LE who have been on the front lines for decades fighting the endless war on drugs and other very intelligent scholars have kept it simple UNLIKE THIS CONFUSING SOAP OPERA BEING PERPETUATED BY THOSE THAT PRETEND TO BE IN THE KNOW HERE IN THAILAND!

When I told one of my acquaintances that cannabis was illegal, he looked at me like a moron. I was very shocked at the time. People don't listen to the government and won't comply with their demands. They don't have it that to sell cannabis. You can find people at https://parsl.co/dispensaries/ who will help you with the point and so on. People there do everything themselves, and it's every man for himself. The competition in selling cannabis is huge...

I've heard the expression "keep your nose out of other people's monasteries.

I think this is exactly the case. Dispensary Edmonton ALBERTA is my place to buy cannabis to get some peace. But I wouldn't take any of it with me to a country where you can go to jail for it. If I go anywhere, I'd rather find what you're interested in legally on the spot. Of course, it would be nice to know the local laws before you travel, but it happens that they change overnight. But if you really can't do without your habits, it's probably really best not to go to such countries.
