The other behaviours avoided on this day are: lying and gossiping, harming living things and eating meat, sexual misconduct and stealing.

That explains a lot! Buddhists avoid these behaviors on this day.
I would have thought that they should avoid these behaviors every day, but apparently not!

Do the people in power not realise that the mom and pop shops pay no attention to this siht (anagram)? Just buy it the day before if there's any problems. I'm sure the monks do?

Alcohol bans are not big news. Once the funny temporary alcohol sales restrictions are lifted, that would be newsworthy. As if it made any difference if I'd be able to to buy my bottle of Singha already at 16:35 instead of having to wait until 17:01.

If the zealots were indeed at a place of self realization there would be no need to BAN anything... they would just naturally not participate out of filial piety to Buddha or whoever their current master is.

Just told my GF there will be no sexual misconduct on Wednesday. She's gutted 😅

What constitutes ‘misconduct’ in some countries it’s legal to marry a goat !

I wonder if there are guidelines ?
