One Phuket village community that was hit hard by the 2004 tsunami, Baan Nam Khem, opened a museum about the tsunami on Friday. Thailand’s Minister of Culture, who attended the opening ceremony, said the museum will educate people about the history of how the tsunami devastated the Baan Nam Khem community, and also bring the community more income and create jobs. He said it would also teach people how to avoid or reduce suffering from any future natural disasters. This is a great thing. To memorialise this disaster, will ensure it is always remembered. It is important for the community to remember. It's also a reminder that past is prologue. The tsunami warning towers are still on the beaches. The signs warning to move to high ground are still there. And the tsunami in Tonga only a few weeks ago, is a reminder of how sudden a tsunami can be.

He also said Baan Nam Khem was the most damaged village in all 6 coastal provinces the tsunami hit.

Did he really say that? What is with the little villages, along the Khao Lak Beach, at the north end, just before Pakarang Cape? There where they never build up the houses, but instead nice resorts got "beachfront"? There were a couple of local villages never restored, between Khao Lak and Takua Pa, the survivors of them did never get the chance, to get back to their old places!
