Around 2,500 travellers flew into Suvarnabhumi airport yesterday… the first day of the rebooted Test & Go program. The passengers arrived on 46 different flights. Just some quick maths suggests that’s around 54 people per flight… glad I’m not running those airlines. Most of the arrivals came from Malaysia and Singapore, and a few from European destinations as well.To be clear, none of yesterday’s arrivals were under the new Test & Go program which only opened for registration yesterday morning at 9am.Travellers are now required to take two PCR tests, one on the first day of arrival and another on the […]

So Pattaya becomes a muslim tourists hub? Not sure, the indians will like that.

And Phuket stays the russian and, if reopened, chinese tourist hub?

You can't win all the time

Well at least there should be a lot more yummy food like kebabs, murtabak and roti to enjoy

My daughter who’s a physician, husband, a GoDaddy exec and kids were going to come visit us here and drop over a million baht on the local Thai economy, but the second hotel requirement turned them off. Going to wait until it all goes away. Too much with young kids in tow. She still sees Thailand as a country requiring quarantine despite advertising to the contrary. They booked a cruise instead. Oh well.

She booked a cruise to avoid testing? A cruise? Good luck.....

Cruise ships have not been the safest places lately regarding Covid. Even with everyone vaccinated and having a negative PCR-test before boarding a number of cruises encountered virus outbreaks.

So exchanging a trip to Thailand with a cruise is a bit like choosing Lucifer instead of Satan.

The sad part of the story is - from the Thai perspective - that substantial revenue got lost because of the current entry requirements.

2500 new arrivals a day? This is NOTHING! Not even the 10fold of this would be an indicator that things are slowly changing to the better.

Thailand will not see its tourists numbers going anywhere back to be anywhere near pre-Covid unless it eases its current entry scheme. The spreading of Omikron is unavoidable but that's not as bad as it sounds since an Omikron infection is much less severe than one with Delta, especially for those fully vaccinated and boostered. So instead of creating a bureaucratic monster Thailand should concentrate on getting in only those tourists with preferably three shots and testing negative on arrival.

Everyone only having an antigene pre-boarding test should be immediately confined to quarantine and the respective airline heavily finec for failing to comply with the pre-boarding requirements - 5000 USD for every case would be reasonable to me. And Thailand is good at issuing fines, isn't it?
