Visa extension for tourist: 60 or 30 days during covid?

Hi!

I am hoping to enter Thailand as a tourist (on a visa exemption) on January 29th.

I already know I would like to extend for as much as I can. I read it could be possible to extend for 60 days  (instead of 30) due to a special covid measure but I cant confirm it anywhere. Can you help me?

Also do I need a return flight ticket to enter the country?

You entitled to one 30 day extension.
You can apply for a 60 day Covid extension for as long as they are available.
The current cut of date is Jan25th, but will almost certainly be extended to March 25th.

The airline may want a return ticket within 30 days.
You can change the return flight date after entering.
