Health officials say there has been a surge in infections in Bangkok, linked to restaurant/bars and other crowded places, such as student dorms. According to a Bangkok Post report, 939 new cases were reported in the capital yesterday, 45 of which were imported. Dr Suthas Chottanapan from the DDC says 300 of the local cases were contracted in restaurants operating as pubs, or in other crowded places such as student dorms and police flats. In the case of restaurant/bars, Suthas says that any SHA+ accredited venue found to have been flouting disease control measures will have their accreditation removed. He […]

Overcrowding - specifically in housing - is the most fertile territory for this disease. Yet I've not heard of any measure - in any country - to address it.

cases, cases, cases... whatever that means now. This is what Dr Clive Dix, the former head of the UK vaccination task, is saying about "cases", "mass testing" and what the overall strategy should be now...

...but this approach (back to normal now basically) is probably too rational for different reasons for the politics that are making the final decisions, having no balls being one of them.

LOL probably should just let everyone have one big Omicron festival and get it over with. Things back to normal in a month tops! 🙂

Until the next mutation comes in through the borders if it isn’t petering out soon.

There are specific areas in the UK where multi generational occupancy is rife but no one is prepared to address it because it's too 'sensitive'.

Yes, exactly. It was migrant workers in the first case I'd heard of - as if migrant workers are being done a favor by letting them in over crowded conditions!

But echoes of racism wouldn't play well in such a case, so nothing was - or is - being done to help poor migrant workers in those conditions.

But enforcement of housing limits would read as "punishment of the poor" even though it's dodgy landlords who benefit from the high rents.

So let's close restaurants and bars? And where do people go to drink and eat instead? Back to their own, or each others, overcrowded residences. See Italy's experience.

Not at all surprising that bars would be a source for covid spread. IMO these are non essential businesses.  Student dorms is an issue that needs to be aggressively addressed. Education is essential and I'd hate to see students going back to on line learning.

The long term suffering from lockdown policies is hard to see, while the drumbeat of infections and deaths is published daily.

Maybe the number of jobs lost from COVID restrictions should be published too along with related depression, suicides, broken marriages, lost retirement savings, and so on.

Those impacts will last far longer than this pandemic.

Ok, even if they only call it 9 or 14 Million, but I was thinking the same.

Phuket, with about 1 Million or such, on the Island, is scoring almost half of that number

But Phuket is Sandbox, Blue Zone and people wanna have Test&Go back
