14 coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the CCSA today, raising the pandemic’s death toll in Thailand to 21,883 with 185 of those fatalities since the start of this year. In the 24-hour period since the last count, the CCSA recorded 8,167 new Covid-19 cases and 3,845 recoveries. There are now 70,594 people in Thailand being treated for Covid-19. So where is the Omicron surge that experts keep talking about? Every week, no matter the wave, we see lower numbers over the weekend and early weekdays followed by a rise on Thursday & Friday. Right now the daily average is actually no higher than before the detection of Omicron! It is encouraging that Thailand is not seeing a sudden large scale rise like the UK  France, US and Japan but why is this the case and why do authorities keep talking of a surge?
