Thousands of lives have been placed in peril after the Burmese military junta currently controlling Myanmar commanded Doctors Without Borders to cease operation. The well-known medical charity famous for providing emergency healthcare worldwide regardless of geopolitical borders warns of the urgent danger of stopping care on thousands of HIV and tuberculosis patients. Another army general, clearly intent on going one better, in his jaundiced view, than his Thai brother-in-arms.

The big question, surely, is whether this apology for humanity has decided at what state of things he wants to draw the line and think about allowing 'his country', Myanmar to be regarded as something better than a war-damaged disaster zone?
